Eddie Hearn plans heavyweight bonanza in Cardiff

By Patrick L. Stumberg

Anthony Joshua is currently set to fight on November 26th, although the date may not be set in stone.

Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has big plans.

Having already announced Anthony Joshua’s next fight date, November 26th, Hearn spoke to The Daily Mail about his idea to have three big heavyweight showdowns on one night. I will be linking to World Boxing News instead because The Daily Mail is garbage, but the secondhand article has the important bits.

In short: Anthony Joshua vs. Kubrat Pulev, Dillian Whyte vs. Dereck Chisora, and Joseph Parker vs. David Price.

Joshua (17-0, 17 KO) vs. Pulev (23-1, 12 KO) would be a terrific showdown between top-10 heavyweights. Not sure I can imagine it actually happen, though; Joshua has a big money showdown with Parker looming, after all. It would be an admirably ballsy move to take on an experienced, dangerous veteran in Pulev with that on the line.

Whyte (18-1, 14 KO) and Chisora (25-6, 17 KO) have been jawing at one another recently, so I could definitely see this one coming together. Hearn himself confirmed it a few days ago.

It’s a showdown between a prospect with a questionable ceiling and a sorely faded veteran that could prove entertaining if Chisora comes out swinging. I’m game.

Parker (20-0, 17 KO) vs. Price (20-3, 17 KO) is just mean. It’s not like Tony Thompson and Erkan Teper can’t hit and I’m well aware that predicting a knockout via induction is a fallacy, but the interaction between Price’s chin and Parker’s sledgehammer fists will very likely not end in the big Brit’s favor.

Promoters can’t be trusted, of course, but that could be quite a good night of fights if everything works out.
