18-year-old Mexican prospect looks like a boxing prodigy.
The last time I was this impressed by an 18-year-old Mexican, Canelo was rising up the ranks. So believe me when I say this. Not only does Eduardo Hernandez look good, he looks phenomenal.
Taking the comparison further, as good as 18-year-old Canelo looked, he hadn’t yet taken on a calibre of opponent like Viktor Terrazas (38(24)-4-1). Yeah, Canelo had fought Miguel Vazquez in only his third fight, but that was also Vazquez’ debut.
Terrazas, though, has loads of experience. Just three years ago, he was the WBC super bantamweight world titlist. He recorded wins over the likes of Fernando Montiel, Nehomar Cermeno, and Rendall Monroe. In other words, Terrazas was a gigantic step up for Hernandez.
Of course, there should be a few caveats with this win. Terrazas had only fought once previous since his KO loss to Leo Santa Cruz. That victory was an MD against a journeyman who was 21-11-2. Terrazas was moving two divisions above his prime weight. Additionally, all his losses have been by stoppage.
Even so, Hernandez looked smooth as silk against a wily veteran. And he stopped this veteran by a liver shot in R2. And did I mention… he’s only 18-years-old?
Take a look at this performance on YouTube. It’s beautiful stuff.
