Boxing manager Vladimir Hrunov, who manages WBA #3 heavyweight Alexander Ustinov, says the WBA should be ordering a bout for the vacant WBA heavyweight crown between Ustinov and WBA #2 Wladimir Klitschko. WBA #1 Luis Ortiz vacated the WBA interim title and is scheduled to fight Malik Scott, which could lead to a possible clash between WBA #5 Lucas Browne and Ustinov, now that Klitschko appears headed toward a March or April 2017 challenge against IBF champion Anthony Joshua.
“Right now we are waiting for the WBA’s resolution that would clarify the WBA’s ordered tournament,” Hrunov said, “where the winner of the fight between Ustinov-Ortiz had to face the winner of the Klitschko fight. Fury is now clearly out, so if they are following the rules of the previous resolution, then Ustinov should be the opponent for Wladimir Klitschko.
“The next fight [for Ustinov] is scheduled in December, everything else has to be discussed. I think for Wladimir Klitschko, a fight with Ustinov is a great inconvenience because Alexander is the same size as him and very motivated.”
