In an entertaining grudge match, former 3-time, 2-division world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez (35-5, 32 KOs) scored an eleventh round KO over former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo “Papito” Vazquez, Jr. (24-7-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Vazquez, son of Puerto Rican legend Wilfredo Vazquez, was quicker and sharper in the first four rounds. Lopez, returning after a 25 month layoff, was unable to get his punches off. Juanma finally connected in round five and staggered Vazquez. Both landed good shots in round six and the bout turned into a brawl after that. The end came in round eleven when Juanma rocked Vanzquez and sent him to the canvas. The referee immediately waved it off.
