Margarito beats Canelo’s brother by split decision

By Togorashi

Former world champion Antonio “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito (40-8, 27 KOs) scored a ten round split decision decision over Ramon “Inocente” Alvarez (23-5-2, 15 KOs) to claim the WBO Continental super welterweight title on Saturday night at the Baja California Center in Playas de Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico. After a slow start, Margarito’s pressure started paying dividends. Alvarez’ punches had little effect as Margarito walked him down. Alvarez was down round eight. Scores were 97-92, 97-92 Margarito, 95-94 for Alvarez. Alvarez’ brother “Canelo” Alvarez was at ringside. Will this fight set up a Klitschko-style “revenge of the brother” showdown?

In the co-feature, unbeaten super lightweight Pedro “La Roca” Campa (22-0, 18 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over David “Orly” Bency (17-6-1, 10 KOs). The bout was waved off to save Bency from further punishment. Time was :55.
