Nico Hernandez win guarantees the first Olympic boxing medal for the USA since 2008

American light flyweight Nico Hernandez will win at least a bronze medal after narrowly defeating Carlos Eduardo Quipo Pilataxi. Hernandez lost the first round on two cards. The bout was tied on all three cards after two, but Hernandez pulled out the last round on all three cards.

Hernandez will face Hasanboy Dusmatov in the semifinal. The USA hasn’t won an Olympic medal in boxing since Deontay Wilder won a bronze in 2008.
