Olympic Boxing: Day 11, USA gets another medal

No more playing around. The winner of every boxing match from today forward wins at least a bronze.

American bantamweight Shakur Stevenson won at least a bronze by defeating Mongolian Tsendbaatar Erdenebat 3-0. That’s two medals overall for the U.S. team.

In other action, American light welterweight Gary Russell, brother of WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell (yes, they’re both named Gary), was edged out of the medal picture by Uzbek Fazliddin Gaibnazarov 2-1.

Cuban light heavyweight Julio Cesar La Cruz defeated France’s Mathieu Albert Daniel Bauderlique 3-0. La Cruz will fight for the gold. Bauderlique takes the bronze.

Russian bantamweight Vladimir Nikitin defeated Ireland’s Michael John Conlon 3-0.

Russian light welter Vitaly Dunaytsev defeated China’s Hu Qianxun 3-0

French super heavyweight Tony Victor Yoka defeated Jordan’s Hussein Iashaish 3-0.

Croatian super heavyweight Filip Hrgovic knocked out Cuba’s Leinier Pero in round two.

Chinese women’s flyweight Ren Cancan defeated Canadian Mandy Bujold 3-0.

UK women’s flyweight Nikola Adams defeated Ukrainian Tetyana Kob 3-0.
