Sadam Ali and Johan Perez will square off in a scheduled 10-rounder.
Welterweights Sadam Ali (24-1, 14 KOs) and Johan Perez (22-3-2, 15 KOs) will be back in action next month as they’ll go head-to-head to headline a Golden Boy on ESPN card scheduled for July 29. The card will be held at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona, reports ESPN.
Both fighters are looking to secure a notable win. Ali, 28, has won two straight fights since losing for the first time to Jessie Vargas last year for the WBO world title. Perez, 34, of Venezuela, is also riding a two fight win streak since a split draw late last year, preceded by a knockout loss to Dmitry Mikhaylenko a year before that.
Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya says this is just another one his evenly matched fight for his new series, as promised.
“When we launched Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN, I promised that we would showcase competitive fights every time out,” Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya said. “We have delivered on each and every card, and the July 29 main event between two hungry contenders in Ali and Perez will give fans exactly what they have come to expect from this series.”
Ali, a Brooklyn native, believes a win on this platform will push him back into another world title opportunity while Perez believes a win for him will get his name “re-established” in the welterweight division.
Middleweight Patrick Teixeira (26-1, 22 KOs) will fight on the card’s co-feature against an opponent yet to be named. He’s been out of action since getting knocked out for the first time by Curtis Stevens last year.
