Carl Frampton splits with Barry McGuigan

Carl Frampton has parted ways with his promoter after a few years together.

Former featherweight champion Carl Frampton has officially split with promoter Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions per a statement posted on Twitter. Frampton has been with the promotional outfit since leaving Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Sport in 2013.

After expressing his thanks to McGuigan and Cyclone for their few years together Frampton says it’s time for him to go out on his own.

“I can confirm that I have parted company with Barry McGuigan and Cyclone Promotions. I would like to thank Barry, the McGuigan family and Cyclone promotions for our time together.

“Having taken time to consider my future and discussed it with those closest to me, I am confident that now is the right time to move forward and take my career into my own hands.

“I still believe that I’m the best featherweight in the world and I promise my fans that I am continuing with y efforts to get my homecoming fight rescheduled in the very near future.”

Frampton had been scheduled for his homecoming bout last month against Andres Gutierrez, but that fight was canceled at the very last minute when Gutierrez took a nasty spill after the weigh-in which broke some of his teeth and left a big gash under his chin.

There were also some rumors of disharmony between Frampton and the McGuigans, including his trainer Shane McGuigan, right before that fight was to take place. This split would seem to give credence to that talk.
