Last weekend, the annual European Boxing Union conference was held at the Hilton hotel in Bruxelles, Belgium. It was an occasion to gather, discuss rules and ratings (the Council meeting happened on Friday afternoon privately), meet up with the historical members and getting to know the newcomers while celebrating the most recent year of the European boxing scene.

President Bob Logist addressed the meeting about several topics of discussion, among which the importance of receiving the best ring officials possible from the national federations that are part of the EBU.

Among the attended guests, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman participated at the Saturday morning meeting expressing his long time affinity with the continental organization before talking about the danger of fake boxing records, and advocated specific WBC rules as the open scoring as well as interesting ideas as silencer headphones for judges.

Later on, Prof. Dott. Mario I. Sturla illustrated the last medical research regarding boxers’ safety, doping matters and specific cases.

Finnish lightweight Edis Tatli won the award as the best EBU boxer of 2016, with a special recognition for his three victorious defenses occurring in that year.

Malamine Koné’s MK Events, from France, was the EBU promoter of the year.
