The longtime voice of HBO boxing is going to remain so for at least awhile longer.
According to a press release issued by HBO, Jim Lampley, the stalwart commentator for HBO Boxing, has just reached a multi-year contract extension with the network. Exact terms of the extension were not disclosed.
With that said, for the foreseeable Lampley will continue in his starring role for the network’s ‘World Championship Boxing,’ ‘HBO Boxing After Dark’ and HBO Pay-Per-View formats — and of course his own show: “The Fight Game With Jim Lampley.”
Executive vice president for HBO Sports Peter Nelson provided this statement today:
“For nearly three decades, Jim has been the most prominent television voice in boxing,” said Nelson. “His work is universally recognized as the standard in the sport and we are thrilled to know he will continue in this high visibility role for years to come. Jim’s high journalistic standards, historical knowledge of the sport and enthusiasm for sharing the backstories of the fighters who enter the ring enriches the broadcast experience for the HBO audience.”
Lampley, a 2015 inductee into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, offered these concise thoughts on extending on his long run at HBO:
“I’m very lucky to have spent nearly three decades working in HBO’s unique culture, and grateful for the chance to keep doing it,” said Lampley. “It’s always been my natural home.”
