Luis Arias: Daniel Jacobs doesn’t like to fight!

By Wil Esco

Luis Arias talks about getting a marquee fight when he takes on Daniel Jacobs, Nov. 11.

In this video interview with FightHub, Luis Arias (18-0, 9 KOs) talks about the surprise at getting a shot at Daniel Jacobs (32-2, 29 KOs) on national television and how he plans to capitalize on the opportunity. Check out some excepts below…

Arias on if he was surprised at getting an offer to fight Jacobs:

“I was. I was surprised, you know, ’cause it’s no secret that Daniel Jacobs, you know, was fighting over on Showtime, and he was on that side, per se. And then they were like ‘yo, you wanna fight Jacobs?’ I was like ‘Whoa, that was outta left field.’ HBO had already gave us a list before and we had gave them a list and Jacobs, we thought, was on that side. So I was surprised but I didn’t hesitate to take the fight. It took me two hours and now we’re here.”

On what he takes away from the Jacobs-Golovkin fight:

“I don’t really like to go off the Triple G fight because it was one of his better performances. I mean he still lost but he put up a good fight. But the thing with him is his chin. His chin’s been checked, I’ve said it a couple times. Go back and look at his record, go back and look how many times he’s hit that deck, how many times he’s been hurt, and I see that as a fault for him. He did look good, he did put up a valiant effort against Triple G, he had his moments in the fight, but his chin, man.”

On how to beat Daniel Jacobs:

“You touch him and you touch that chin. Jacobs doesn’t like to fight! He’s a boxer. You know, he’s athletic, he’s fast, he’s quick, but he gets wild and he doesn’t really like to fight. So I just gotta be myself, I gotta dog him, I gotta bring the fight to him, and that’s exactly what we plan on doing.

“I’m gonna chase him! I know he’s gonna run! So when I hit him and he gets to running, I’m gonna chase him and I’m gonna make it a dogfight. So I’m ready for a 12 round dogfight and we’re gonna find out what Jacobs got in November.”
