Rival New England Promoters Jimmy Burchfield and Ken Casey have teamed up this Friday to promote two New England Jr. Middleweight bouts and a solid undercard. The 10 fight card at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Ri starts at 6:30 p.m.
In the main event, Worcester’s Khiary Gray-Pitts (14-2, 11 KO’s) will fight Greg Vendetti (14-2-1, 10 KO’s) from nearby Stoneham, Mass in an 8 rounder at 154 lbs. Pitts will be looking to bounce back after tough losses to Courtney Pennington (11-3-2) and Ian Green (12-1) in the past year. However, despite setbacks, Pitts’ punching power keeps him the favorite in most local bouts in his weight class. And to his credit, he refuses to pad his record and as his calls out the best competition in the region. Vendetti, has 2 wins this year by KO and possesses an almost identical record as Pitts.
The fastest rising Jr. Middleweight in the region is Murphy’s Boxing’s Mark DeLuca (18-0, 12 KO’s). DeLuca has built himself slowly in the New England region under the tutelage of Ken Casey, however never against any of Burchfield’s fighters, who still controls most of the talent in New England. If victorious, it could set up a fall showdown with Gray-Pitts in the main event. However, he will have his hands full against Chris Chatman (14-6-1, 5 KO’s), who has fought nearly everyone in New England from 154 -168 lbs. He was last TKO’d by Gray-Pitts in the 7th round of a bout most judges had him winning. He also has his eyes set on a rematch should he be victorious on Friday.
Two notable undercard bout are Kendrick Ball, Jr. (6-0-2, 5 KO’s) versus Godson Noel (6-0-1, 4 KO’s) at super middleweight. At 6’2, Worcester’s Ball Jr. has overwhelmed most opponents with his size for the past 13 months since turning pro. His two draws are against better competition, albeit only 4 and 6 rounders. If victorious against New Jersey’s Godson Noel (6-0-1, 4 KO’s), it will be Ball, Jr’s best win to date.
The last bout at jr. middleweight on the card is tough-as-nails Ray Oliveira, Jr. (7-1, 1 KO) against Jose Rivera (3-1, 3 KO’s) in a rematch of a previous war last February. Oliveira just recently dropped a 6 round majority decision to Casey Kramlich (7-0-1) in April. Rivera is coming off a TKO win last month at Mohegan Sun.
The rest of the card features welterweight Anthony Marsella Jr. (4-0, 2 KO’s), Heavyweight Joe Cusumano (10-1, 8 KO’s), and others.
