WBO review affirms Pacquiao-Horn decision

Three of the five judges asked to re-score the fight agree Horn won.

The WBO’s independent review of Manny Pacquiao’s controversial loss to Jeff Horn shows that Horn rightfully won a decision. ESPN reports that upon re-scoring from five anonymous judges from different countries, three of five scored the fight for Horn, one scored it for Pacquiao, and the last had it a draw.

Francisco Valcarcel, WBO president, tabulated each of the judges scores to determine who won each round on an average basis of 60, 80, and 100 percent. Jeff Horn would win rounds one, six, and twelve on all of the judges scorecards; rounds two, four, and seven on 80% of the scorecards; and round ten on 60% of the cards.

“From the results, it can be established that Pacquiao won 5 rounds while Horn won 7 rounds,” the WBO statement said.

The WBO would additionally tally up the scores by round from the panel of judges along with the scores from the official judges from the fight, which also pointed towards a Horn win.

When informed of the results of the WBO’s review Horn said it felt good having his win vindicated:

“It gives me evidence behind me that I can just use now. Instead of saying ‘I think I won the fight,’ now a heap of other people — professionally — think I won the fight,” Horn told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday as he prepared to board a flight for Los Angeles. “It’s definitely nice to have it finally put on paper.”

Pacquiao has a rematch clause in place with Horn if he chooses to execute it, but his future in boxing is currently up in the air after this stunning loss.
