Alexander Povetkin vs. David Price official for March 31st in Cardiff

By Patrick L. Stumberg

Three of Price’s four losses have come against opponents who went on to fail drug tests

Yep, it’s happening.

The planned March 31st bout between Alexander Povetkin and David Price is officially a go. The two will duke it out on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker because this sport is dumb.

Povetkin (33-1, 23 KO) is 7-0, 5 KO against humans since his loss to Wladimir Klitschko, but has a significantly spottier record against drug testing agencies, testing positive before planned fights with Deontay Wilder and Bermane Stiverne. He was last seen dominating Christian Hammer, who stopped Price in seven last February.

Price (22-4, 18 KO) has been stopped by Tony Thompson (who failed a drug test after their rematch), Erkan Teper (who failed a drug test after their fight), and the aforementioned Hammer (clean as of this article’s posting). To pit him against Povetkin is farcical, dangerous, and perhaps the least self-aware booking I’ve ever seen.

If Price beats “Sasha,” that’s upset of the decade.
