Ancajas vs Gonzalez results: Jerwin Ancajas successfully defends IBF belt

Jerwin Ancajas still has the IBF super flyweight title after stopping Israel Gonzalez.

Jerwin Ancajas made his U.S. debut and successfully defended his IBF super flyweight title tonight on ESPN, stopping a game but ultimately overmatched Israel Gonzalez in the 10th round.

Gonzalez (21-2, 8 KO) was down less than a minute into the fight on a thunderous left hand from the southpaw Ancajas (29-1-1, 20 KO). That start didn’t bode well for the Mexican challenger, but to his credit he was able to hang tough with Ancajas, who largely dominated the fight, truth be told, with Gonzalez giving his best effort, which is all you can really ask of any fighter.

In the 10th round, Gonzalez went down again on a left hand about halfway into the round. The fight was probably over there, as he’d been stung before the punch that put him down, but he got up and fought on. He lasted about 20 more seconds before another left caught him and put him down, with the referee stepping in to end the fight there.

According to CompuBox, Ancajas landed 130 of 477 (27%) of his total punches, and 84 of 231 (36%) of his power shots. Gonzalez landed just 48 of 303 (16%) of his total punches, including 46 of 202 (19%) of his power shots. Ancajas handily won the jab battle, 46-2.
