But could a clash with Daniel Jacobs also be in the pipeline?
Billy Joe Saunders stated his belief that he will hold all of the middleweight belts by the end of 2018, but refusing to overlook Martin Murray.
With Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin set for a rematch on May 5th, WBO champion Saunders hopes to fight the winner later in 2018.
The unbeaten southpaw describes the potential middleweight unification as a “quest” and his “mission”.
Speaking to BoxNation, Saunders said:
”I should be beating the likes of Willie Monroe. I should be dealing with David Lemieux because I know what I’m on a quest to do, I know what my mission is.” “
If I can’t be dealing with them, then in my own head this mission’s a big fairy tale.
”I know what I’m going to do. I want the winner of Golovkin and Canelo. Please God Golovkin wins – rightly so because he did last time – and I will hold all the titles. Every single one of them by the end of this year!”
Saunders easily out-boxed heavy-handed contender Lemieux in Montreal last December, earning plaudits on both sides of the Atlantic.
But the 28-year-old recently described over victory the Canadian as “bad for business” as it may have put other middleweights off facing him.
American contender Daniel Jacobs lost to Golovkin last March in a unanimous decision, and has since been linked with a showdown with Saunders.
“Yeah he’s good but one million percent I’m better!”
“If they can make it financially work, viable for both of us, then I’m sure that me and him haven’t got a problem fighting each other.”
